The rural life

Well, I have fed the chickens,
and more than that.
I’ve cleaned the coop
and brought them warm
water on wintry days.
Come summer
I've carried them under my arm
to the neighbor’s place
to pick bugs from his yard,
while we sat on his porch
and shared cold beer
and long stories.
